Seeing how the whole "Refusing the Sacrifice" ending was considered canon, why did the first Legacy of Rain game had the whole choosing between to endings to begin with?

I do hope that Soul Reaver gets a remake for the PS5 or PS6, with all of the cut content finally added in the game as well as the alternate final boss and game finale.
